Challenging Situation to Consider...
I have requested that we have classroom sets of Chromebooks. The counter suggestion is that we have students pick up and drop them off each day. Maybe in advisories? Maybe first period? Should we add five minutes to the morning and afternoon to allow them to return them? Let's mull this over and talk. With all of our heads on this issue, we will find a good solution.
Extending Wellness...
On May 20th, we are going to extend the Wellness Schedule for one more week. As you know, May is Mental Health Awareness month. For this, Optum Idaho has offered to send kites to all the Sources of Strength programs open to having an event.
The theme for this year’s event is H.O.P.E. which stands for Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences. I wanted to take this opportunity to create a culminating experience for our students where they can try out a few different Wellness activities. Leadership/Sources of Strength peer leaders will be helping run a few booths and anyone else up to running their wellness is welcome to join us!
During the Wellness hour, students will be able to visit multiple stations positioned throughout the gym, commons, courtyard, and field. My ask of you, is that if you are not actively manning a station if you could please help encourage students to try new activities and keep them within those 4 areas. Due to the open house nature of this event, I would be so appreciative of any extra help.
A sign up sheet, list of stations, and information to share with your advisory will be provided in an email next week. Please feel free to email me (michelle.pavlik@cdaschools.org) if you have any questions!
Thank you!
Making Sense of Your Worth
Hi Principals,Would you please share this with your staff. We are offering MSOYW class for three days in June at Hospice. We have 20 positions open and all staff, certified or classified of any role, are invited to join us. This course is part of our staff wellness program. Those who take it show a decrease in feelings of sadness, anger, loneliness and fear and an increase in feelings of happiness, confidence, acceptance and willingness to receive care and negotiate their own needs.
INFO HERE!
I took the class three years ago and found those same benefits which have continued over time.
Please share this for staff. We intend to hold many more sessions of MSOYW, usually after school hours and also during the first week of summer break each year. So if you can't make this one, please keep an eye out for future sessions.
Thanks for all you do and all you give as educators!
Keith

Helpful Hints from Human Resources:"Measurable student achievement" means the measurement of student academic achievement or growth within a given interval of instruction for those students who have been enrolled in and attended eighty percent (80%) of the interval of instruction. Measures and targets shall be chosen at the schoool level in collaboration with the staff member impacted by the measures and applicable district staff and approved by the school board. Measures and targets must also align with the performance measures and benchmarks in the continuous improvement plan described in section 33-320, Idaho Code. The most effective measures and targets are those generated as close to the actual work as possible. Targets may be based on grade or department-level achievement or growth goals that create collaboration within groups. Individual measurable student achievement targets and the percentage of students meeting individual targets must be reported annually to the state."
Here are some key takeaways:
- selected measures can be based on achievement or growth (documented evidence of 51% meeting goal for professional endorsement, 75% as meeting advanced professional endorsement.
- measures should be collaboratively selected by the evaluator and evaluatee and be tied into the evaluatee's professional growth plan;
- measures should be tied to the work of the teacher, department, grade level, or subject area and the same target could be shared by a group of people
- Evaluatees should place evidence collected in the "evaluatee evidence" area of Homeroom Evaluations in the event of an audit
